The remembrance of Goddesses has been abandoned by today’s majority. Moon and goddesses, as understand by ancient cultures, was blighted by religions and the scientific arenas simply call it superstition, myth, fiction, fantasy. But there are many many women, and their brothers, who are making sure that we do not forget. I want to remember. I hope to help some of you remember.
Rhiannon (Great Queen, Queen of Night, was goddess of Celtic moon, night, and death. The Celtic knowledge came with the Welsh, who rides a white horse, and said is to have met Pwyll, who she teased for three days, riding ahead of him until she lets him catch her and she agrees to marry him. Years later, they have a son and the son was in the care of a nursemaid when thee baby boy disappeared. The nursemaids and servants were afraid they would be blamed so they killed a puppy and spread blood on the sleeping face of their mistress, Rhiannon. When she, their Queen, wakened, she was blamed for killing her baby and she was not only accused of killing her son, but of eating him. She was taken outside the castle walls and forced to tell everyone what they said she had done. Imagine the horror. Her husband stood beside her and supported her because he did not believe she had done such a thing. Many years later, her son, now a young man, was returned to her. A lord far away had rescued the babe and had raised him as his son. He heard of the story in his faraway land and returned the boy to his parents.
Imagine being victimized so. Imagine the grief and horror. Rhiannon reminds us that we can all be victimized, but we must practice patience and forgiveness. We all have to refuse to be victims. We know life can be, and, usually, is, at some point, unjust to us. We have to realize that hurt people hurt people. There is grace and balance and harmony in all things. It is really difficult, but we have to remember we are all holy beings, queen of our own life, and we can remain calm and peaceful no matter what is handed us.
As she grows toward December’s Full Moon, the moon reminds us of our own transformative energies that can bring us to peace and calm and holy of nights coming. She reminds us of the divinity of the feminine.
When she grows, she reveals our gifts and talents as well as our secret hidden places and spaces of shortcomings and that she accepts us in spite of it. Her light is comforting and reassuring. She loves us and lights on us ins spite of it. She is love and compassion at work in our lives.
Make sure you go out tonight and the next few nights to experience her light covering like a blanket, think about your inner gifts and talents. Focus on letting go of things you have done that you wished you had not, and then let it go and go make amends. Align yourself with her compassion and love. Let her bring you peace. Know the strength she gives to forge on towards the coldest of moons and find some peace and dignity in spite of what might loom overhead.
