Anam Cara

Listening to as I paint.

It has been said that one-third of women are more afraid of loneliness than receiving a cancer diagnosis.  - according to a survey of 3,000 women in the U.S. that analyzed what wellness means to them.

I cannot imagine a world where I felt totally disconnected, had no one to laugh or cry with, had no one to talk about deep philosophical and spiritual things with, o one to back me up or to help me process things with, or no one I could simply be ME with.

Imagine a life where someone yearned for friendship(s) yet had no way of figuring out how to have them.  Imagine an older woman, watching the ever-soap-opera, reading a romantic story, watching “Beaches” the movie, and yearning… yes, yearning... for a girlfriend to call, to visit, to invite over, to just hang with.  There are many.

We are just coming out of enforced isolation due to the pandemic.  How many lost touch, lost the energy, lost the will to argue over conspiracy theories, and have found themselves alone and wanting friendship?  Did some lose the skill of being a friend?    Has the idea of friendship become too complicated?

It is imperative that we have friends.  Women are meant to gather together, to mentor each other, to support each other, to share coping skills, to serve each other with deep compassion, to cheerlead for each other, to support and inspire.  We need each other because we “get” each other.  We have to have someone o bounce our ideas off, to help us make informed decisions, to share important things in our lives.  It has been since the second woman created that women have needed each other.

Yes, it takes trust and vulnerability.  On both sides.  It takes friendships in order for us to survive, overcome, and thrive.  There is great transformative energy and power in two or more women gathering together.

Anum (Soul) Cara (Friend) is a Gaelic word for a person who is a teacher, a companion, a spiritual guide, a friend.  That is what a real girl friend is.  That kind of friend watches us live, and, sometimes, watches us die. There is no greater love.  There is such a deep connection that it is a spiritual friendship that goes above earth and earthly living.  It is said that we can judge the state of our soul by the kinds of friendships we have.

It does not mean that that friendship will survive the hard life down here on earth.  Friendships can come and go without ire or chaos.  Some friendships simply go their own way because paths may divert off in another way or at another level.  Even so, the love and connection stays even though the life involvement is not very often.  Sometimes it is a deeply spiritual fond memory.

Seek out that twin fire they speak of.  Gather together with women so that you are gathered into a circle of the Divine Feminine.  Beware those with hidden agendas that will bring you down and hurt your heart.  Do not try to keep a relationship going with a deeply negative person or a Contrarian who constantly negates anything positive.  Anam Cara is one of the most beautiful feminine parts of this world, the one before, and the one after.  Seek that!

INTENTION:  I intend to sort out my relationships and keep guard that I do not let any friendships make me feel like I do not matter, what I love does not matter, what I do does not matter, and who I care for does not matter.
