Woman and the Redbird

When I lived in Maine, it was such a miracle for me to see the Redbirds.  They were not that common but just a fleeting glimpse of one would startle my soul alive.  It was even more vivid when the Cardinal flew into a winter’s scene.  It thrilled me.  I have never seen one since I left Maine so I do not know if they are found on the West Coast.  But to dream of one or are drawn to thought of the Red Cardinal, can still bring the symbolic meanings to us.  This painting came from such thoughts and so I delve into the symbolic meaning.

The Redbird symbolizes the ability to rebound from things that bring you down.  It represents determination.  You tend to be a bit flighty in that you do not like to stay at one thing overlong.  You tend to be a homebody and do not let many people in that do not belong there in order to keep your home your Garden of Eden.  You walk your talk and talk your walk, or should be if the Redbird comes to visit in any form.

Cardinals mate for life and females need wooing that goes on throughout the relationship.  Visitation by a Redbird is a visitation from a loved one who has gone on.  It is definitely a Messenger.  Cherokee see the Redbird as a visitor from the sun and is a sign of good spiritual luck.  They are messengers who speak to protection, love and devotion.  It is always positive and reminds the see-er to not allow life to dampen their beautiful spirit and to follow one’s heart.

Those with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) will find the Redbird an emotional support and that having a representation of the Redbird around them is to have the resilience and vitality to overcome the darkness of SAD.  I do not have SAD but I can see a painting with redbirds in it would give me a charge of energy and joy.
