Fear Warriors

“I am made

Of little rooms

Full of thoughts

Emotions and

Memories.

You cannot define me by

Listening to me once.

I’m too complex.”

Women have complex feelings.  We can be terrified, anxious, emotionally wrought and, yet, be the bravest soul ever.  We are willing to become our most vulnerable, our most confused and yet, in spite of that, we can do the bravest things.  We face myriads of emotional fears and yet we step up to them like a warrior queen.  The moment we begin to do it, is the moment we begin to truly love ourselves.

We are willing to be mother bears in defense of our children, our loved ones, our friends, our country. We are afraid to walk at night, a thick forest, unknown territory when we are alone. We fear carrying groceries out to our vehicles, alone.  Yet, we do it.   We fear for our bodies more than anything else.  We fear our brothers.  We fear life because each of us, in our own lives, have faced some kind of fear every day and night.

We are afraid to proclaim our successes.  We are afraid to accept compliments.  We are afraid to experience harassment.  We will walk around the clock rather than get into conflict.  We are afraid to stand up for ourselves.  We are afraid to step out of cultural norms.  We are afraid to be right.   Most of us are afraid to go to a restaurant alone, to go out to a movie, alone, to do pretty much anything alone.  We are afraid to be judged and criticized.  We are afraid to fail.

Interestingly enough, we are afraid of these things, yet we confront them; some of us in large ways, some of us in small ways.  We are all warrior women.

“Every time your fear is invited up, every time you recognize it and smile at it, your fear will lose some of its strength.”- Thich Nhat Hanh
