“My thoughts, may seem scattered, but are tiny nucleoli that are soon turned into creative action. “-CD
Each of us is a personal Medicine Wheel; our brain, a literal network of seemingly scattered bits and bytes of thoughts; a brewing and boiling random thoughts that eventually focus in on one image, one tiny birthing of that nucleus; a dreamcatcher of creative thoughts; an emotional connection of thoughts that crave emotional need of expression, creative stimuli; a true connection to a place we call soul or spirit that is the conglomeration of tiny flotsam and amalgamation of those thought bubbles. (Whew. Big words.) Let me try to sort out my nuclei on the four quadrants of one’s being:
Physically, our brains are wired differently. We have more developed fine motor skills and higher visual imagery capabilities. In our frontal cortex, our frontal lobes, we have higher creative thinking. We are what some call “right brained” because we tap into a place of distant thinking where thoughts are constantly firing.
Intellectually, we are said to be of higher intelligence (Barron, 1963, 1969; Getzels & Jackson, 1962) I believe we live in a higher persuaded emotional area of sensitivity to our world and all things in it. Our sensitivities to exterior stimuli is higher. We see so many possibilities in things of the senses: the sight of something, the taste of something, the sound of something, the feel of something, the smell of something that starts networking and bouncing around in our heads until it crystalizes in a type of picture we see in our heads and we need to define, to express that. We express that sensually.
It is said that we, artists, creative people, are known to be interior thinkers that creates an emotional reaction and tend to become happily engrossed in creating. This can also cause us to be anxious people. We become intensely engrossed in our emotions that can become negative if we do not find an outlet for expressing all the emotions. We understand this about each other and can, typically, tell another creative soul the moment we meet them.
Soulfully, delving into the arts, into creativity, we are soul-searching for ways for soul to express itself. Our creations, our art, shows who our soul is and it is a reciprocal action because it helps us understand our soul better. Yes, there are dark aspects as well as light. Art exists in our very souls. Expressing ourselves, artistically, brings us soul-peace. It is calming. Art is a gift to those who learn to use it for healing, for comfort, for easing life when it gets tough. In doing art, we enter into the most intimate relationship with ourselves. We are visionaries, as well. Art becomes the voice of your soul, your deepest longings, sacred.
