Hretha

I could not find out much about the Goddess Hretha, but her name means famous and/or victorious.  She was a Goth/Germanic/Anglo-Saxon/Norse Goddess that represents Mother/protector/warrior.  She is wind, rain, earth, and fierce.  She is March's lion and lamb in one and the chill before Spring.   March was still a lean month, a cold month, and one who played tricks pretending Spring had come and Spring has not come.  She is the Goddess of Survival.  She can destroy as well as lull.  She can be a violent Goddess as well as a quiet Goddess who sits at the hearth awaiting season's change.  She is the cleanser in need of cleansing, as we work to do our Spring cleaning and to renew ourselves.  She is us preparing ground and hearth and Self for new beginnings and to help us face the new season with a joy de vive.  We take time to enjoy the lengthening and warming of days.  Shrove Tuesday/Pancake Tuesday is her festival but taken over by Christianity as part of Crucifixion/resurrection.

I started this page by doing collage of sky colors on top and grass colors on the bottom.

Suddenly, it was not grass on the bottom as a shape started to take place.  I used two colors of green to get her shape.

Bit by bit, she came to be.  I added a collage of three lilies and ten used my felt watercolor pens to get some decoration on her clothing.

And so we cleanse!  Happy cleansing this month.
