To Invoke or Evoke Is The Question

I wondered what the difference was between INVOKE and EVOKE so had to go look.  I had not thought of the difference before seeing this as an Inspirational word Jean has offered.

Both come from the family of words meaning ‘to call’.  Invoke means to ‘call upon’ and Evoke means ‘to call forth ‘and to take over, I think.  So, Invoke means to ask, to plead, to beg help and Evoke means to assist.  Invoke is usually asking for someone higher to use their powers that be to solve something.  Evoke is something to do with memory that something brings to us, something that moves us emotionally.  This is going to be my meanings as I will use now.

Right now, in our world, so many are Invoking something higher than ourselves to bring healing, to bring unity, to bring peace and to give us the energy to do what we can to make the difference for such.  It is Invoke that we plead for help for ourselves in order to do such. With Invoke, we are not asking for something higher than ourselves to come solve things, we are inviting that higher being to come help us, to enter parts of that higher being into ourselves to give us strength, to give us ways to heal ourselves, and ask for that Higher Being to be our cheerleader, our instigation, our assistance.

Some choose to Invoke characteristics from the Goddesses, some from the animal spirits/totems/guides, and some choose god/s or saints/or religious artifacts.

I invoke animal spirits, and, of course, the goddesses.
